Literature Study

We will start the year  with the book, Long Way From Chicago, by Richard Peck.  While it is not necessary for you to purchase your own copy, you may want to if you like to write notes in the margins.

6-Traits

We are currently focusing on using "Ideas" in our writing.  A high-scoring paper will meet the following criteria:

  • The idea or topic is clear and easy to identify.
  • The writer stuck to the topic from beginning to end.
  • The writer uses intriguing details to expand the central idea.

Throughout the year, we will always use "Conventions" when scoring papers.  A high-scoring paper will meet the following criteria:

  • Only the pickiest editors will spot errors in the text--errors are minor.
  • The writer uses good conventions to make his/her text meaningful and easy to read.
  • The writer uses a veriety of conventions to show what he/she knows.
  • Minor touch-ups will get this ready to publish.
